XI'AN AND TBILISI JOINTLY BUILD A GREEN ENERGY CORRIDOR, USHERING IN A NEW PHASE OF CHINA-GEORGIA INDUSTRIAL COOPERATION

(Xi'an, China, February 26, 2025) – On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia, Georgian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Khvtisiashvili led a trade delegation to Xi'an for high-level meetings with Yu Xiaodong, Standing Committee Member of the Xi’an Municipal Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, as well as a business delegation. The two sides reached multiple agreements on economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Yu Xiaodong welcomed Alexander Khvtisiashvili and his delegation on behalf of the Xi'an Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government, emphasizing that Xi'an, as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and a key hub of the BRI, has always regarded Georgia as a crucial partner in Eurasian cooperation. “Xi'an boasts a strong industrial foundation in new energy vehicles, high-end equipment manufacturing, and modern agriculture. We are willing to share development opportunities with Georgia, deepen industrial chain collaboration, and jointly explore broader markets,” Yu stated.

Deputy Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili highly praised Xi'an’s development achievements and noted, “With Georgia’s free trade agreements covering the EU, the CIS, and other economic blocs, we can provide Chinese enterprises with a strategic gateway. We welcome Xi'an-based enterprises to use Georgia as a natural bridge between Europe and Asia.” He also expressed gratitude to the Georgia Growth Fund for facilitating this cooperation and introduced the core members of the visiting delegation.

As part of the cooperation framework, both parties agreed to establish a permanent Georgian exhibition area in the Silk Road Reception Hall of Xi’an Chanba International Business District.

To deepen cultural and tourism cooperation, both sides plan to hold reciprocal “Twin Cities Culture Week” events and tourism-themed promotional activities. Deputy Minister Khvtisiashvili emphasized, “The Silk Road Reception Hall is not just a business platform; it is also a medium for civilizational dialogue. Georgia looks forward to sharing its Silk Road story here.”

Under the initiative of the Georgia Growth Fund, a joint working group led by CEO George Berishvili has been established. The working group will focus on the following key areas:

Hosting quarterly online industry matchmaking meetings and organizing a Xi’an business delegation visit to Georgia in March 2025;

Establishing a business database to match upstream and downstream industrial chain needs precisely;

Partnering with Xi’an-based chambers of commerce to provide legal, financial, and one-stop services for companies investing in Georgia.
